As a surgical resident I rotated through the departments of accident and emergency, orthopaedics and trauma, urology, paediatric surgery, breast and endocrine surgery, gastrointestinal surgery, surgical oncology, hepatobiliary surgery, pathology and radiology. I was an integral part of the resuscitation team in the accident and emergency department. I was involved in history taking, physical examination, assessment investigations, interpretation of diagnostic investigations and management of common surgical emergencies and elective surgical conditions under the supervision of senior residents and training consultants I also carried out surgeries under supervision of consultants and in my senior resident years I also carried out surgeries independently. As Chief resident, I was involved in rota preparation, organization of the weekly presentations; including journal club, morbidity and mortality meetings, clinico-pathology and clinico-radiology meetings. I was involved in bedside teachings, teaching sessions in specialist clinics, theatre sessions and presentations. I was also involved in organizing postgraduate clinical meetings and examination drills.
